Assessment

Assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process.  Assessments are made by teachers throughout the school year to identify next steps in pupil learning.  These are undertaken in a variety of forms including regular observations; teacher feedback and marking or pupil response; teacher-pupil discussion; self or peer marking; practical, oral, written, memory tasks; and pupil progress meetings.  Children’s progress through the programmes of study is formalised twice a term and is supported by twice-termly snapshot tests or quizzes.

The school’s comprehensive assessment records, together with work in their books, indicate that all groups of pupils typically make at least the progress the school expects through each year... The school’s own assessment information closely matches the results of national tests.   Ofsted July 2017

Communicating With Families

There are regular opportunities planned in across the academic year to communicate with families about their children’s progress. We value this dialogue as we strive to continually strengthen the partnership between home and school. We build relationships on mutual trust, so all families can support us in our strategies to help children move on and make accelerated progress in all aspects of their learning.

Meet the Teacher

To start the school year off positively, we hold a meet the teacher event with a short presentation in the second week of September when all families are encouraged to attend to understand the expectations for the coming year for their children.

Reports

At Leechpool Primary School, there are two points in the year when families are given an academic report:

  • Pupil Profile in the spring term
  • Record of Achievement end of year report in the summer term

The Pupil Profile is an interim report that will be shared in the spring parent consultation evening and an example can be seen below.

The Record of Achievement will be sent electronically through the Parent Portal in July of the academic year and will provide achievements from the year as well as their current attainment and effort gradings for all taught subjects. Future targets will also be identified.

Parent Consultations

During the school year, there is the opportunity for families to attend two parent consultations: one in the autumn term and one in the spring term. This provides families the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss their progress.

In addition to the above, we have an open-door policy and families are welcome at any time to make an appointment with their child’s class teacher to discuss progress outside the formal consultation cycle. To arrange an appointment, please contact the school office.

To find out information about our curriculum for your child’s year group, please visit the Year Group Zones and click on the year group you would like to look at. Families can also telephone the school office at any time to book an appointment to talk to Mr Robert Cooper – Assistant Headteacher for Curriculum and Achievement – about the curriculum if they cannot find what you are looking for on our website or if you would like to clarify anything further.
